It's been a struggle the last year and a half since My Chemical Romance broke up (at least for me). I've been avoiding their music like the plague(but still reveling in them when they come on Pandora) for reasons unknown, but following around Gerard and Frank via the Internet. I like to pretend that hearing the music they come out with individually will feel like MCR has come out with something new.
I saw Frank and his band open up for Taking Back Sunday and The Used a couple weeks ago and, to say the least, it was absurd not seeing the rest of My Chem around him. It's weird that when placed amongst other people someone's aura can change. He still seemed in his element, though. Frank and the Celebration's music was the raw type of stuff that I expected out of Frank. I feel like he's now able to produce music that fits his style more.
I've been following Gerard more closely than Frank. I like to see what Gerard's doing specifically with his art; I also like to hear the things he has to say (especially about MCR. I'm still trying to milk that tit for info about the band). He's put up a website, done tons of art, and, within the last month, has put out an album. After feeling like Gerard connected so well with the second and third album of MCR, it's weird hearing this new style of music come out of him. It's this futuristic, pop, electronica vibe that is hard for me to relate with him. This is not to say that I'm not totally in to it- I am madly impressed by everything Gerard is able to spew from him.
Ever since the break up, i've been able to look at these two dudes as more human beings and less as band members. The fact that they've come out with music that is eras different than My Chem's just adds on to my view of their complexity as people. I'm having to fill in the blanks now as to who they are as people, because since I looked at them as mostly band members before, the band itself filled in the blanks for me.
